Mesoma Hammida Onyeagba, a Nigerian-born artist from Enugu State, channels her heritage and academic training from the University of Ottawa and SAIC into vibrant paintings, textiles, and fashion-based art. Awarded the Suzanne Rivard-Le Moyne Award and the Municipal Art League Fellowship Award, Mesoma transforms discarded fabrics into cherished artifacts, emphasizing their tangible presence as carriers of history, memory, and personal narratives.
Her work redefines traditional notions of beauty by exploring patterns, shapes, and color coordination, delving into themes of movement, fluidity, and tranquility. Mesoma focuses on the dynamic interplay of form on the body and in the environment, drawing inspiration from her Nigerian roots and collaborative creativity to inspire, innovate, and connect. Mesoma also occasionally conducts workshops, sharing her artistic process and passion for textile art with others.
